The Cumberland County School Board recently approved a ten-cent increase in school meals for the 2016-2017 school year. The raise in meal prices is required in order to be in compliance with the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. This federal rule requires school districts to gradually increase their meal prices until they are more in line with federal reimbursements for free and reduced priced meals. If you have any questions, please contact the Child Nutrition Office at 910.678.2502.

Please join your Howard Hall School Family to help support the Ronald McDonald House of Durham in North Carolina by collecting the little tabs you pull to open soda, soup or other aluminum cans. The Cumberland County Bar Association graciously provided an attorney to speak to fifth grade students to help commemorate Law Day, which was observed on April 28, 2016. Ms. Frances McDuffie spoke about the Miranda Warning which most people call the Miranda rights. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court case, Miranda v. Arizona, which became the catalyst for implementation of the best-known procedure in law enforcement, the Miranda Warning. This year’s Law Day theme explored the procedural protections afforded to all of us by the U.S. constitution, how these rights are safeguarded by the courts, and why the preservation of these principles is essential to our liberty.
