Wellness Tip: Childhood Obesity Awareness Month

Childhood obesity puts kids at risk for health problems that were once seen only in adults, like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease.

The good news is that childhood obesity can be prevented. In honor of National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, CCS encourages your family to make healthy changes together.

  • Get active outside: Walk around the neighborhood, go on a bike ride, or play basketball at the park.
  • Limit screen time: Keep screen time (time spent on the computer, watching TV, or playing video games) to 2 hours or less a day.
  • Make healthy meals: Buy and serve more vegetables, fruits, and whole-grain foods.

Taking small steps as a family can help your child stay at a healthy weight.

Volunteers for Book Fair

Read every day; lead a better life.Do you love books? Do you love working in your child’s school? Do you love connecting children with the books they love to read? Then we have the perfect volunteer opportunity for you! Simply go to Sign Up Genius and sign up to work at our Book Fair! The Book Fair opens Thursday, September 19th, and will close Friday morning, September 27th. We look forward to seeing you there!

        
Community Eligibility Provision for 2019-2020

Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for 2019-2020. 65 CCS schools will provide students with a breakfast and lunch at no charge on days when school is in session. Visit https://bit.ly/2Gvq8io for more information and a complete list of participating schools.

Currently, Howard Hall is a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) School. This provision enables each student enrolled to receive a breakfast and lunch at no charge on days when school is in session. Students enrolled are not required to submit a lunch application to receive meals at no charge. For more information about Child Nutrition Services, please visit http://cn.ccs.k12.nc.us.

        
The Book Fair is Coming!

Come to Our Book FairOur Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that brings kids the books they want to read. We will receive a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level, and all purchases benefit our school! Reading for pleasure inside and outside of school has real and long-lasting benefits. Please come to our book fair and help shape your child’s reading habits. 

The Book Fair will open Thursday morning, September 19th, at 7:15 and remain open until 3:00 on school days through Tuesday, September 24th. On Wednesday and Thursday, September 25th and 26th, the Book Fair will be open until 6:00 p.m. so that parents have an opportunity to shop. Please note that the Book Fair will close at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, September 27th. This is a good time to buy Christmas presents, stock up for winter break, or contribute books to your child’s classroom library.  The Book Fair is a great way to get everyone excited about reading! See you at the Book Fair!
